Pondering the greening September 30, 2008

The greening of the workplace has made us lazier about business attire. We’ve turned into telecasters – put on jeans and a suite/tie top so when you’re on a teleconference you look professional from the waste up, all that people see. But will this change when employers put teleconferencing cacpabilities at each workstation, not just in conference rooms? In some cases polycoms and the ubiquitous communication tool which really encourage casual dress, but what about the time when those will be replaced by the next generation, a tele-audio device?
Some analysts predict greenhouse gas emission reductions as high as 60- or even 80 percent by 2050. Indeed, there has been a lot of hype about the 2010 and 2020 goals, but imagining ahead a few decades, will the sci-fi movies predict it all well – clean, green new planets humans will colonize…? Do we need to learn the hard way and destroy Earth before we become better stuarts of future worlds and finally manage to keep our home planets pristine and healthy?
Are our “brave” leaders provoking another war? September 6, 2008

I truly hope the Bush administration (and by that I mean mostly Cheney) don’t succeed in getting us into another war before they are ousted. Not to worry, if Cheney and Bush run out of time, McCain would surely finish the job.

The United States cries foul when other countries suppress their freedom of the press, yet…
I don’t know about you, but this worries me! If the United States starts arresting its own protesters and journalists and charging those who dare speak out and question any political establishement with terrorism of all things… then why should the rest of the world pay attention to our condemnation of the Chinese censorship of the Internet, the Russian mysterious killings of journalists, kidnappings of newscasters and closing of media outlets in Iraq and Afghanistan, or the open prosecution of reporters in the Philippines?
Executive experience irrelevance September 1, 2008

If Sarah Palin has more executive experience than Sen. Obama and Sen. Biden combined, then she certainly has more executive experience than Sen. McCain. If that’s so important, then someone explain to me why she isn’t at the top of the Republican ticket?
How a presidential candidate should respond to a hurricane September 1, 2008

McCain really doesn’t belong at the Gulf Coast soaking up publicity. It’s just more sleazy pandering. What was he doing when Katrina hit? And now he’s just overcompensating and posting for the press. I wish he had a better sense of what to do, and more importantly, what not to do in situations like this. Leave it up to the experts, the rescuers, the government currently in charge to do all the work. You go in and try to meddle, you simply pull resources and attention away and onto yourself.
Barack Obama sent an e-mail to supporters urging them to donate to the Red Cross. Much more appropriate response for a presidential candidate: https://donate.barackobama.com/redcross
P.S. Don’t even get me started on why the White House still has the photo of McCain and Bush with the birthday cake, just as Katrina was making a second landfall, on the press releases web page. Cake first! I mean… Country first!
Shotgun weddings are OK, but birthcontrol is not? September 1, 2008

Gov. Sarah Palin taught her daughter well. Birthcontrol is sinful. Shotgun weddings are face-saving. I have all the respect for the family’s decision and unconditional love for their 17-year-old kid and the kid’s baby. But, how can Palin be “proud” – her words – of her daughter when the teenager had premerital sex… Hmm, Palin is pro-life and anti-birhtcontrol, but obviously failed to teach her own children abstinence before marraige. That sounds to me like parental failure and even more poignant when it comes from a pro-life, anti-pill mom who advocates these two views for all women. It’s merely the hypocricy of the situation that bothers me. I understand the plea for privacy and I don’t care for this announcement to put the spotlight on the candidate’s daughter. What saddens me and what I think people must take into consideration is that this vice presidential candidate highlights her family values as possibly her most compelling asset and yet her own child seems to have been in need of more education on family planning. If she can’t instill these values within her own family, what gives her the right or the skillset to advocate them for everyone else.
